Backward Planning a Lesson

How to plan a lesson that keeps student learning at the center

Images of teachers jumping on desks and captivating students with dramatic stunts or historical re-enactments are the stuff of Hollywood. Truly good teachers don’t put on a show - at least most of the time - because they're too busy putting their students at center stage. Good lesson planning doesn’t mean creating wildly intricate plans to "wow" students. On the contrary, we think teachers should plan lessons that get students working hard and digging deep into the lesson objective. This course describes how teachers can backward plan a lesson based on the learning goals they have set for their students, in order to keep their class focused on the show that matters most… their learning.
